The north wind

The day and night that
weave the autumn
like the sheaths of
the wayfaring wild geese
that guard the season
their memories mostly
are wintry pursuits
of summer
an autumn morning on
the atoll
portraits of larkspur
and deadly nightshade
the transparent plank underneath my feet
is the north you drew
the ruggedness of the earth
leveled here
sands and ideals become
horde of horses
when the wheat is ripened
in the wind of
the shepherd of September
the north
the ancient mill
grinding new wheat every
